Primark Blackburn opens Monday
Bargain-hunters of Blackburn will descend on the town's new Primark on Monday when it opens for the first time as part The Mall's £66m extension.
The centre has increased in size by one third to 600,000 sq ft, adding 20 new units. As well as the new 39,600 sq ft Primark – the 200th store in the highly successful chain – also opening at the Lord Street centre on Monday will be WHSmith and Costa Coffee.
A rolling programme of store openings will follow over the coming months, as advanced lettings discussions and retail fit outs are completed on the scheme's remaining 17 units. Next and New Look intend to open in late summer. Peacock's, a first for the town, will open its store in late autumn. In March 2011, Blackburn's new 68,000 sq ft continental market will be unveiled.
Loraine Jones, general manager of The Mall Blackburn said: "We know the people of Blackburn have been eagerly awaiting the opening of our new extension. We hope they like what they see and can join in the excitement as new stores continue to open their doors over the coming months. This is an exciting time for Blackburn and a truly 21st century shopping experience."
An extensive refurbishment to the centre's existing malls has also been completed, with new floor and ceiling finishes throughout.
Managed by Capital & Regional and Aviva Investors, The Mall Fund owns 17 shopping centres across the UK.
