Residential expansion at Saighton Camp

The development of 120 homes at a former army camp in Huntington, Chester, has been recommended for approval if the developer pays £450,000 towards education facilities.

The scheme by GMV Eight, part of Commercial Estates Group, is a reworked proposal for part of a 40-acre mixed-use development at Saighton Camp.

The site was previously granted planning permission for use as a primary school and 50,000 sq ft of employment space, with the development of 375 homes alongside.

Plans to replace the school and employment plot with an additional 120 houses were initially refused by Cheshire West & Chester Council, on the grounds that there was inadequate provision for affordable housing, education and open space.

However, a resubmitted application from GMV Eight at the end of 2014 included 25% affordable housing and pledged £455,000 towards educational needs.

A meeting of the Cheshire West & Chester planning committee on 13 January has been asked to approve the scheme in light of the changes.

Indigo Planning advised GMV Eight.
