Next to expand Trafford Centre shop, while closing another nearby

The retailer has taken an additional 22,000 sq ft at the shopping complex and will shut down its 21,000 sq ft home store, located within the neighbouring Trafford Palazzo.

Next has signed a new 10-year lease on its existing 45,000 sq ft store on Regent Crescent. In addition, the company has increased its footprint up to 67,000 sq ft by expanding into vacant space within adjoining units.

This will allow the retailer to bring its clothing, beauty, and home ranges under one roof at the Trafford Centre, which is owned by CPP Investment Board.

As a result, the Next Home store within Peel L&P’s Trafford Palazzo complex will close.

Overall, Next’s strategy results in a 1,000 sq ft net increase of its footprint at the Trafford Centre and Trafford Palazzo.

“This is a significant signing for us and an exciting step for everyone involved,” said Rhys Evans, director at Pradera Lateral, the Trafford Centre’s asset manager.

“The deal represents a true partnership between Trafford Centre and Next, whereby both parties will be working together to create an exceptional shopping environment. The new store will dramatically increase Next’s presence and impact on the mall and provide a seamless customer experience.”

Mike Barrow, area manager at Next, added: “We are excited to be able to bring all of our products together in one destination within the Trafford Centre.

“This is a really exciting opportunity for Next and will ensure we are able to provide a better product offering and, more importantly, the best customer service within Trafford Centre.”

Trafford Palazzo is beautiful, with an even higher quality interior than the Trafford Cente.. but its always empty. Only Primark and Sea Life appear to have decent footfall. Think it would work better as an additional food destination for the Trafford Centre. Move some of the cramped restaurants from the food court, allowing the ridiculously small McDonalds the ability to expand. More Leisure would work well too, bowling, mini golf. There needs to be more reasons to cross the bridge.

They should try to lure Eataly

spot on. Needs to become a destination in it’s own right, by whatever means

Completely agree with Cal… Eataly would be a welcome addition to the Palazzo

I agree, trafford palazzo is such a stunning and gorgeous building. It needs to take this advantage and bring in all types of people. They can open such beautiful high street shops. Maybe even luxury brand stores. Some nice restaurants would be great such as Eataly
