Opus North gains approval for Runcorn plans
Halton Council has given planning consent to the development and investment company to build a mixed use scheme on a site opposite Halton Lea shopping centre in Runcorn.
The four-acre site currently houses a former office block which has remained derelict for six years.
The two storey building measures 25,000 sq ft and was known as Vestric House, which was previously occupied by AAH Pharmaceuticals.
The demolition of the building will make way for a new Lidl supermarket, Ford dealership and public house.
Jamie Wood, director at Pozzoni, said: "We wanted to ensure this was a valuable addition to the current area and not just another redevelopment that itself stands empty for years. It will be a focal point on the way into the area, and we have tenants ready to start on site ensuring that this previously derelict area is given a new lease of life."
Ilkley-based Opus North bought the site, located in West Lane, from a private investor last year for £3m.
Building is due to start on site in October, with the basic infrastructure completed by February 2012. Final completion is expected to be around spring 2013.
