Persimmon acquires 28 acres in Penwortham
L&Q has sold a site earmarked for 274 homes to the housebuilder’s Lancashire division having deemed it non-core to its strategy.
Persimmon has wrapped up the unconditional purchase of the 28-acre former Penwortham Mill off The Cawsey in South Ribble and plans to start on site this summer.
Devonshire’s Solicitors and Eckersley advised L&Q on the sale and Knights acted for Persimmon. The scheme has been branded as Mill Green Gardens.
The council granted hybrid planning permission for up to 300 homes on the former Vernon Carus site in 2022.
A Lidl supermarket also featured in the plans and the store opened earlier this year.
Trafford Housing Trust, now part of L&Q, acquired the site in 2019 from Bovis. After buying the land, THT refreshed the housebuilder’s lapsed plans from 2017.
Ben Townsend, new business director for the North West at L&Q, said: “As an organisation we consider homes for disposal where they sit outside our core areas of Greater Manchester and Greater London.
“The sale of the Penwortham site supports our strategic decision to focus our activity on areas where we have the greatest concentration of homes, enabling us to provide responsive, joined up services which offer best value for residents. Moreover, we are confident that having Persimmon Lancashire on board will help bring forward the delivery of much needed affordable homes locally.”
Persimmon was contacted for comment.
Elsewhere in Lancashire, Persimmon is progressing plans for a 960-home project across 277 acres just outside Lancaster between the M6 and Caton Road.
