Pioneer D&B begins £4m Kingmoor Park project
Work has started on a 55,000 sq ft phase of development at the Kingmoor Park Enterprise Zone near Carlisle.
Crewe-based Pioneer Design & Build has been appointed as main contractor on the scheme, which is supported by £760,000 of grant assistance via the European Regional Development Fund, with Brian Scowcroft’s Kingmoor Park Properties providing the balance.
Cubby Construction, which is itself based at Kingmoor, will be the primary groundworks contractor for the initial part of the development, which is intended to house 19 units ranging in size from 1,550 sq ft to 4,500 sq ft.
Although conceived as space for small businesses, Place North West understands that 20,000 sq ft is already under offer with an inward investor.
Scowcroft, who has chaired Kingmoor since setting the business up after his family sold insurance group Swinton in the 1990s, said: “We are keen to encourage new and budding entrepreneurs to take the next step in creating, relocating or expanding their businesses. In turn this will create jobs for the local area and enhance the local economy.
“There is demand for modern, good quality space of this size – we felt that the demand was outstripping the supply and thankfully the DCLG agreed with us.”
The new units are expected to be ready for occupation in October 2018. Kingmooor Park, north of the city and accessible from the M6, now has more than 2m sq ft of commercial space within its 400 acres, with planning in place for a 300,000 sq ft industrial unit.
