Plans for gold Manchester apartment block revived

The race is on to implement the planning permission for the 15-floor Store Street scheme before it expires later this year.

M1 Piccadilly, part of Faizal Atcha’s LW Group conglomerate, secured planning permission for the project from Manchester City Council in 2022. The scheme was backed by former Liverpool footballer Naby Kieta.

Shaw Street Developments, a vehicle controlled by Liverpool-based businessman Russell Schwarze, is now bringing the development forward. It has until December to trigger the permission.

Schwarze has applied for consent to make changes to the internal configuration of the building. The tweaks include adding a second staircase in line with building safety legislation that has come into play since the scheme was approved. This change will allow the developer to secure funding for the project, according to planning documents.

Shaw Street also plans to increase the number of flats in the development from 54 by getting rid of some of the large apartments previously proposed. The introduction of ground floor coworking space is also planned. An application for these changes will but submitted separately.

Schwarze is working with planner, Nexus, and Four Architects. The original scheme was designed by 5plus with Zerum providing planning advice.

Such a laughably bad and ugly scheme. Really needs to be revised aesthetically.

Please change that tacky gold cladding too.

No!

Wonder what the people of Liverpool would think if a Manchester United or Manchester City player backed a Golden (Sh) -tower on their waterfront?

Normally a fan of new developments, but how in the HELL does this compliment the Brick-Heavy neighbours?

I rather like this. The gold facade makes a pleasant change from the usual grey and black favoured in many recent new developments.

It won’t be gold. It’ll end up being yellow like that revolting block near the AO arena
