Plans in for almost 100 Bury homes

Two planning applications have been submitted to Bury Council with the potential to bring nearly 100 homes to the town.

The first is the application to convert a four-storey office building, pictured above, into 47 apartments on Silver Street in the town centre. The building is adjacent to Bury Library, one street over from the Fusilier Museum. It previously served as offices for NHS staff, but has been vacant since mid-2018.

The NHS gained planning permission on the site to convert the offices into 19 apartments in February this year, but this was never progressed. The latest development has been brought forward by Citipoint and with designs provided by Snow Architects.

Proposals for 52 houses on a brownfield site off Brandleshome Road in Bury have also been submitted by Shaheen Developments.

The 6.6-acre plot of land was previously use by a paper manufacturer but hasn’t been in use since 2003.

The housing provision is set to include for 14 three-bedroom houses and 13 four plus bedroom houses, along with an affordable provision of 18 two-bedroom flats, three six-bedroom houses, and one four-bedroom house. Plans also include 96 car parking spaces and the retention of natural wetland to create blue infrastructure.

Bury Council has not yet set a date to consider either application.
