Queen tours Liverpool One as Grosvenor prepares to open
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh toured Liverpool One today as part of a half-day state visit to the city to mark its European Capital of Culture year.
Her Majesty and Prince Philip arrived at Lime Street at 10am on the royal train and first stopped at the new Arena and Convention Centre Liverpool at Kings Dock before spending an hour walking through Liverpool One.
Accompanied by the Duke of Westminster, owner of Grosvenor, and project director Rod Holmes, the Queen walked from Paradise Street to the Strand while young arts groups performed.
The first phase of the 42-acre Liverpool One, which will total 1.6m sq ft of retail as well as hotels, a cinema, 3,000 car parking spaces, a five-acre park, residential and offices, opens on May 29.
After touring Liverpool One, the Queen lunched at St George's Hall and will finish her visit at the Philharmonic Hall to hear the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra play a short concert.
