Reel agrees deal at Burnley’s Pioneer Place

The cinema operator has confirmed its deal as an anchor tenant at the leisure-led £26m Pioneer Place in the town centre, signing up to operate an eight-screen, 18,000 sq ft complex.

Reel is the first tenant to be confirmed at Pioneer Place, which will also include seven restaurants totalling nearly 28,500 sq ft, along with two retail units of 5,000 sq ft each. There will also be a 125-space car park and a public plaza.

Delivered in partnership with Maple Grove Developments, part of the Eric Wright Group, the development sits between Addington Capital’s 365,000 sq ft Charter Walk shopping centre and Burnley College and University of Central Lancashire facilities.

Funding has been provided by the council along with a £3.2m grant from Lancashire County Council.

Leader of Burnley Council Cllr Charlie Briggs said: “It’s great that we have announced Reel as anchor for the Pioneer Place development, the signing will give other restaurant and leisure chains the confidence to invest in this exciting scheme. We’ve already had initial talks with some of the leading restaurant chains and the signing of Reel as anchor tenant should provide them with the confidence to commit.

“With the growth of the University of Central Lancashire in Burnley and the student population in Burnley set to grow ten-fold to 4,000 in the next four years, this new cinema and leisure offer will be great for the new students and a boost to Burnley’s growing university town status.”
