Russell adds 430,000 sq ft of industrial at South Heywood

Plans to increase the amount of employment space at the 318-acre Rochdale regeneration zone to 1.9m sq ft have been set into motion.

A subsidiary of Russell Homes is preparing to submit an outline application for a 430,000 sq ft unit on plot 3 of the South Heywood masterplan.

The unit would be built next to the 753,000 sq ft distribution centre on plot one that is pre-let to L’Oreal.

The plans for additional industrial accommodation would increase the amount of employment space at the development from 1.45m sq ft, as approved under the South Heywood hybrid application in 2018.

Overall, the masterplan is to provide 1,000 homes and 1.9m sq ft of employment space on a swathe of land north of Junction 19 of the M62.

A new link road also forms part of the site. Work on the 2.2km infrastructure project is being carried out by John Sisk and Son. The Government’s £900m Getting Building Fund has provided £10m to support the delivery of the road.

No mention of the additional supplementary infrastructure ie GP, Dentist, Schools, Public Transport etc, that will be required to support already overstretched services.
