Sale school extension rubber stamped

Trafford Council has approved the authority’s plans to add a 12,000 sq ft single-story teaching block at Brentwood High School and Sixth Form College, off Cherry Lane.

Galliford Try has been appointed as principal contractor for the project which will also see an internal reconfiguration of the existing building, the car park, the addition of external play areas, and a cycle track at the special school.

Landscaping, installation of air source heat pumps, solar panels, a polytunnel, plus temporary construction access from Cherry Lane are also in the works.

The extension will house a music and drama suite, a science and food technology suite, a hygiene room, a staff area, and an office as well as other amenities.

There are currently 149 pupils at the Sale-based school which caters to children with severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties, autism, and complex medical needs.

Pupil intake for the 2024/25 academic year is expected to increase prompting Trafford Council to seek an extension to provide a further 80 pupil places at Brentwood, 10 per year group, increasing the annual admission rate from 15 to 25 pupils.

Turley, Pozzoni, Stantec, Studio Owens, Amenity Tree Care, ESD, Ridge and Partners LLP, Novatia, Amey Consulting, and Cundall form the project team.
