Sephora announces Manchester store
The French beauty giant is set to move into a 5,400 sq ft unit next summer at the Trafford Centre in its first UK venture outside of London.
Sephora, the brand famous for its luxury skincare and cult makeup picks, has officially announced its first foray into the North.
A large billboard has been placed where the store will be located with a tagline stating: “Manchester, you called it.”
The Greater Manchester unit marks the retailer’s third in the UK, following the successful openings earlier this year of two stores in the capital’s Westfield shopping centre.
Sephora will join the likes of Selfridges, John Lewis, and M&S at the Stretford mall, which was acquired by CPP Investments in 2020.
Sarah Boyd, managing director of Sephora UK, said:Expanding our presence beyond London is something that consumers have been screaming out for, and we are listening hard to them when deciding where to go next.
“The Trafford Centre, known for its iconic atmosphere and diverse retail offering, is the perfect location for our third store.”
Russell Loveland, managing director of Pradera Lateral, Trafford Centre’s asset manager, added: “This iconic beauty giant already has a cult following, and our own social media has been blowing up with enquiries from excited customers eager for Sephora to open.
“We are very proud Sephora chose the Trafford Centre for its next location, which will be its first store in the North of England and know it will be a fantastic success and a great addition to our strong international brand line-up.”
Last Month, M&S moved from its 87,000 sq ft store within the building, setting up shop in the 135,000 sq ft unit formerly occupied by Debenhams.
The Trafford Centre was built by Peel in the late 1990s and opened in 1998.
The wandering turnip has a good video up about the decline of Manchester city centre, it’s interesting Sephora have chosen the Trafford Centre over the city centre where there are many available units.

What do Manchester developers think will attract people to come to the city centre when you have managed to destroy most of nightlife that city was famous for and most of the high end retail the kind of thing that attract high worth spenders has left the city. There are now so many major foreign clothing brands that don’t want to know about Manchester but have stores in other equivalent sized city like Lyon or Turin or Valencia.

There are likely to be high earners in the many apartments they are built/building in the city centre, they are unlikely going to drive to TC when they can shop on their door step.
