St Helens gives thumbs up to 832,000 sq ft industrial

An application from Canmoor Developments for the redevelopment of a 51-acre site at Millfield Park has been approved.

St Helens councillors voted nine to four in favour of the application, which proposed eight commercial units ranging from 20,250 sq ft to almost 500,000 sq ft.

In total the scheme will open up 832,400 sq ft of industrial space on a site that has been earmarked for employment use in the St Helens Local Plan.

The land in question had previously been Green Belt, before the council incorporated the land into its plan.

Parking provision for 833 cars and 196 HGVs is also planned.

It is predicted the scheme will create between 1,000 to 1,600 local jobs.

On the project team are Michael Sparks Associates, TIER Consulting, Applied Ecology, RPS, ESC, Kairus, DTA, Sharps Redmore, and BB Trees. Stephenson Halliday is the principal designer.

An application from Merseyside Police for the construction of a single-storey police station off Peel Street in Newton-le-Willows was also confirmed with a unanimous decision.

Designed by AHR Architects, the station will be a base for 15 community support officers.

The project is part of Merseyside Police’s wider 12-year estate strategy – which began in 2013 – to update police services in the region.

The application can be found on St Helens Council’s planning portal with the reference number P/2024/0542/FUL.
