St Helens signs off 64-bed care home

Angela Swift Developments will transform the former Eccleston fire station site off Millfields into a facility to support those with nursing and dementia needs.

The approved care home will offer 24-hour support for its residents, including palliative services. The 64-bed care home will have several communal facilities, including a garden with a terraced deck.

TDC Architects designed the three-storey facility, which will have residential group spaces on the ground floor, including a sitting room and a hairdresser.

There will be 25 parking spaces on the site, including two designated electric vehicle charging points.

There were public concerns surrounding the level of traffic this project would bring to the area, particularly with speeding already a resident concern. However, St Helens Council’s planning committee ruled that the benefits of the scheme outweighed the harm.

Other members of the project team include JC Consulting as planning consultant, BHA Trees as arboriculture consultant and Arbtech as ecological consultant.

The project’s application reference number with St Helens Council is P/2021/0917/FUL.
