Stockport College moves masterplan forward

The proposed masterplan for Stockport College is to be shown at a public exhibition next week as consultation for the £24m project begins.

The project has been designed by Project 3 Architects and tackles an area that has long been a priority for both the college and local authority. It includes improved teaching spaces and social areas, intended to be in place for the 2020-21 academic year, but also looks to set guidelines for redeveloping surplus parts of the site for other uses.

Indigo Planning has been working with the college and Project 3. Executive director Doug Hann said: “The proposals are an exciting scheme which will regenerate and bring significant improvements to the campus, a prominent site along the A6 corridor.

“As well as enhanced teaching space the proposals will free up surplus buildings and land which are suitable for conversion or redevelopment for a range of uses including residential, office and leisure.

“The site can contribute towards the ambitions of the council’s town centre living development framework, and marks another significant investment in Stockport, alongside the station redevelopment and bus station proposals.”

Visitors will be able to see the plans and speak to members of the project team in a session at Stockport College reception on Wednesday 27 June between 3:30pm and 8pm, with feedback to be considered ahead of a planning application.

Stockport College’s Michelle Leslie said: “We are extremely delighted to share the exciting new masterplan for the redevelopment of the College campus with the people of Stockport, and to discuss the plans with them.

“This is a great opportunity for us to get the views of students, parents and interested local people and businesses, and provide a forum for them to leave their thoughts, comments and suggestions.”
