Team revealed on £12m Eureka
Seddon Construction and K2 Architects have won the contract to deliver the £12m Eureka Mersey, due to open in Wirral in 2022.
Seddon and K2 have signed a pre-construction services agreement, awarded through the Procure Partnerships Framework.
Spaceport at Mersey Ferries’ Seacombe terminal closed its doors in December to make way for its redevelopment into Eureka.
The space exploration-themed attraction had been based at the terminal since 2005, and will now be converted into Eureka, a hands-on science and discovery centre aimed at young people and families.
Announced in July 2019, Eureka Mersey will be the sister site to the museum’s main base in Halifax. Last year, the scheme was awarded £6.6m from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and received planning consent from Wirral Council in October.
The project would see the listed building refurbished and exhibition space inserted into the ferry terminal. The scheme is expected to be on site towards the end of 2020, with completion expected in 2021 and an opening in 2022.
Alongside Seddon and K2, the scheme includes Sutcliffe, Tace, and Urban Green. Walker Sime is the project manager.
Eureka is still looking for a exhibition architect to create “a new concept in visitor attractions”, according to tender documents.
