THING OF THE WEEK
I ZOO... Chester Zoo is not monkeying around with its new launch – a 380-capacity wedding venue, The Square. Once home to lions, bears, and chimpanzees, the grade two-listed stable block will now accommodate ceremonies and events. With wall patterns and textures inspired by some of the zoo’s endangered species, let’s just hope there are no cheetahs!
BEERS TO THAT… Manchester Union Brewery, the city’s only dedicated craft lager works, is celebrating its new can design the only way it knows how – with more lager. Mancunian 100 will see 100 local businesses partner with the brewery to create special-edition, personalised lager cans.
Great North Pie and Vita are among the companies that will add their names and logos to the new design created by local designer Harrison Park. Applications are open until 12 May for those who want to get involved. Crafty!
ROYAL RESIDENCES… There is a historic event happening on Saturday. But as well as Sam Allardyce’s return to the Premier League as manager of struggling Leeds United, the coronation of King Charles III is taking place. Millions, possibly even billions, across the world will be tuning in to ogle at the pomp and ceremony that this country seems to do so well. As a way of warming up for the big day and brushing up on your royal property knowledge, why not check out Place North West’s rundown of all the real estate the King owns? Spoiler alert: there are not many one-bed terraces.
DUCK DEAL... One of Barrow’s oldest pubs, the former Dirty Duck on Raglan Street, has been put up for sale and will feature in an online auction to be held next month by auctioneer Pugh. With a £35,000 guide price, the boozer will be a quacking deal for someone willing to (webbed) foot the bill.
GOOD GREiiF… UK REiiF is fast approaching. Property professionals from across the North West are gearing up for three days of networking and events on the other side of the Pennines and, while the enthusiasm is apparent, so is the meteorological trepidation. Last year’s edition was bathed in sunshine; few attendees had expected to return from Leeds with a tan but some can back positively frazzled. The forecast for UKREiiF 2023 is not looking quite so rosy. Things could still change.
