TSK makes switch to employee ownership
Founders Iain Holden and Andrew Burns will continue to lead the interior design and fit-out company as it enters a new era.
The majority shareholder of TSK is now an employee ownership trust. Day-to-day operations will still be handled by the current leadership team, with Holden and Burns committed to being involved in helping the firm thrive.
The two have already seen the design group go from its founding in 1995 to having 100 employees across two offices in London and Manchester. TSK boasted a £56m turnover for the year ending 31 July 2024. It has been ambitious about its growth, growing its workforce by 20 in the last six months.
Recent projects include Brabners’ 20,000 sq ft office in Manchester, Siemens’ 15,000 sq ft workspace in the same city, and MoneySupermarket’s 28,000 sq ft office in Wales.
Holden, who is the company’s chief executive, shared his thoughts on the shift to an EOT model.
“It is a fantastic feeling to genuinely believe that our best years are in front of us as we approach our 29th anniversary,” he said.
“We have built an exceptional team of talented people at TSK who are as excited as we are for the future,” Holden continued.
“The transfer to employee ownership is a great way to get them directly involved in taking the business to the next level and sharing directly in our success. It also provides the platform for seamless succession over time.”
The employee ownership trust board will be chaired by John Shinnick, an independent trustee, alongside the firm’s current leadership team and two employee representatives.
Shinnick has nearly 40 years of experience in the professional services sector and said he had experienced TSK’s office fit-outs firsthand.
Shinnick said: “I was involved in bringing the TSK EOT to fruition and know that the same level of care has been consistently present in their work across this city and others over the past three decades.
“Now, TSK is creating an environment for their people to grow, develop, and drive the business forward for decades to come.”
Napthens’ Keith Melling and Victoria Bromiley advised on TSK’s transition to employee ownership.
