Viridor strengthens Northern business
Waste management giant Viridor has acquired Wigan-based JWT Waste Services for £7.6m.
Viridor, based in Bolton, operates the Greater Manchester household waste contract, the largest waste and renewable energy PFI in Europe, and is building the UK's biggest energy-from-waste combined heat and power plant in Runcorn.
JWT is a specialist recycling and collection business based in Atherton, employing 45 staff and handling around 70,000 tonnes of material a year. The business operates a recycling centre and 29 vehicles, which will be integrated into Viridor's northern region, complementing the commercial collection services of Viridor's Trafford Park operation. Viridor's commercial clients include Media City UK, Manchester United FC and Kellogg's as well as hundreds of other businesses across the North West.
