Waverley Park set for £2.5m reset
Plans for upgrades to facilities at a public park in east Preston have been submitted by Eric Wright Civil Engineering to Preston City Council.
Proposals are to revitalise the public space with £2.5m in improvements to play areas, the introduction of decorative gardens, the widening and lighting of footpaths, and the refurbishment of an existing pavilion that could host a park cafe.
Sports facilities at the park would also be improved, two 11-aside football pitches would be set up, as well as a smaller nine-aside field.
A tarmacked multi-use games area next to the smaller football pitch is also proposed.
The demolition and rebuild of the existing stake park and the installation of a pump track for bicycles would round off the proposed plans.
Funding for the project would be drawn from the city council’s ‘Active Preston’ pot, which contributes to local projects aimed at creating a healthier and more sustainable city.
Planit has drawn up landscape designs. The applicant’s agent is Smith & Love Planning Consultants.
Locals were consulted on plans before they were given the go-ahead.
Others on the project’s team include Bowland Tree Consultancy, RTPI, Subsurface, Waterco, PBA, and Caulmert.
Dan Evans, programme manager at Eric Wright Civil Engineering, said: “We would like to thank the community for their feedback, which has helped shape the project into a fully accessible sports pavilion and changing facility, which will benefit every generation who uses Waverley Park.
“We’re thrilled to be involved with its redevelopment and look forward to a positive outcome at the committee at the start of the new year.”
He continued: “We will then commence works which is estimated to take approximately eight months.”
