Wirral gives go-ahead for 116 homes

Persimmon Homes is now able to develop a brownfield site in Bromborough after the council’s unanimous vote.

The 12-acre former Coda chemicals site off Pool Lane will be redeveloped into 116 homes. Of these, 16 will be four-bed houses, 49 will be three-beds, 33 will be two-beds, and 18 will be single-bed flats.

Nine of the homes are to be reserved as first homes – a government initiative to get people onto the housing ladder- eight homes for social rent, and a further six homes for affordable rent.

A riverside walkway, play area, and public space will also be developed as part of the scheme.

15 objections were mainly due to traffic concerns from nearby residents.

Councillors noted that Persimmon “has been quite active in engagement with the community” during the application process.

Cllr Steve Foulkes, vice-chair of Wirral Council’s planning committee, said: “We are in a phase at the moment where we must prove that we can deliver large housing sites, and 116 is a significant contribution to the housing numbers.

“Any other decision, I believe, than approval would basically ruin our ambitions to defend our local plan.”

The application was submitted to Wirral Council by NJL Consulting on Persimmon Homes’s behalf.

Chris Kershaw, development director, Persimmon North West said: “We’re delighted that Wirral Councillors have approved our plans for 116 new homes in Bromborough.

“This development will provide a range of homes, helping to meet local housing needs while also regenerating a brownfield site that has been empty for some time.

“Homeowners will benefit from easy access to local amenities, rail and bus connections as well as to Port Sunlight River Park.

“In addition to delivering much-needed housing, this development will secure significant investment for the Bromborough community.”

Landscape Architect Ascerta was aided by TEP as the environmental consultant. Waterco undertook the flood risk assessment.

Others involved in the project include JLP Surveying, Coopers Consulting Engineers, PDA Acoustic Consultants, BEK enviro, Legat Owen, JSP Sustainability, and Eddisons. Pegasus is the viability assessor.
